Is Rum & Gun worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Pirate adventure fans who want a solo campaign with shooting and loot collection
- Action RPG players who enjoy experimenting with weapons, perks, pets, and rune upgrades
- Small groups with a local network who want co-op maps alongside single-player content
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a slow, exploration-led pirate adventure may bounce off the hectic top-down shooting loop.
- Players who prefer controller-based play will hit a wall because gamepad support has been discontinued and aiming uses the mouse.
- Players looking for a purely gun-focused game may find the melee and spellcaster build options distracting.
- Players wanting co-op outside a local network may not fit the stated LAN-based multiplayer mode.
Our take on Rum & Gun
The likely bounce point arrives at the control scheme: movement stays on the keyboard while aiming occupies the mouse, and discontinued gamepad support removes the usual controller fallback. Players who also dislike active reloading may hit a second wall during the core shooting loop.
What is Rum & Gun?
Rum & Gun is a single-player pirate adventure combining hectic top-down shooting with ARPG-style loot and character development.
The campaign spans four handcrafted acts across the Indian Ocean, with naval battles, gambling, musical instruments, rum, and legendary beasts tied to mysteries. Players can collect 33 hat fashions, 30 weapon types, 15 pet species, and weapons that support up to two levelable Spell Runes. Melee and spellcaster builds supplement gun-focused play. Movement uses the keyboard while aiming uses the mouse, and combat includes an active reload system. After the story, Arena battles, randomly generated Treasure Hunt maps, LAN co-op, and an included map editor provide additional modes. Custom maps can be shared through Steam Workshop.
