Is Return worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Action-RPG players who want both ranged and melee combat
- Exploration-focused players who enjoy ruined cities and wasteland environments
- Players who want weapon purchasing, unlocking, and mastery-based upgrades
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a primarily dialogue-driven RPG may find the combat focus limiting
- Players looking for a short, self-contained experience may not suit the combination of exploration, trading, ship repairs, and weapon progression
- Players who prefer realistic settings may not fit the mutated, post-apocalyptic home planet
Our take on Return
Its focus on combat, exploration, and weapon progression leaves less room for a purely narrative experience. The setting and progression are tied to encounters, trading, and equipment upgrades rather than a story-only structure.
What is Return?
Return is an art-driven adventure RPG about reaching a home planet after 200 years away.
The post-apocalyptic world includes ruined cities and wasteland valleys shaped by mutation and change. Exploration reveals secrets from the planet’s past and present, while combat uses shooting, slashing, and rolling against enemies and bosses. Victories can provide grimoire, relic-era currency, ship parts, and treasures. Merchants exchange adventure spoils for items and weapons, and new allies can reward acts of bravery. Weapons can be purchased, unlocked, and upgraded, with mastery points available for developing favored equipment. The journey combines exploration, combat, trading, and equipment progression as the protagonist searches for parts to repair the ship.
