Our take on Residue: Final Cut
The focus on a short, fully voiced story and environmental exploration leaves less room for extended campaign length or combat systems. Optional collectibles and references add searching beyond the main route, but the central narrative remains a compact two-to-three-hour experience.
What is Residue: Final Cut?
Investigate the derelict Aral Sea area of Uzbekistan in a narrative-focused 2D platform game.
Three characters, each with unique skills and goals, reach separate locations as the story moves among their viewpoints. Players climb structures, swim through submerged passages, cross a graveyard of ships, ascend a stranded drilling vessel and move through unlit passageways. This nonviolent, fully voiced tale follows people who survived an unsuccessful effort to replenish the dried lake, drawing on local history and ecological destruction. Completing the central narrative takes two to three hours. Additional searching reveals dozens of concealed collectibles, allusions to actual events and further secrets.

Residue: Final Cut compared to similar games
Residue: Final Cut combines non-violent 2D platforming with three alternating characters, a voiced narrative and optional historical discoveries. Jusant focuses on climbing tools, stamina management, multiple routes and a meditative ascent, rather than character-switching and a two-to-three-hour story about the Aral Sea.
