Our take on Red Gate
The story frames the gate’s power as a dangerous mystery, while the described play centers on collecting points, fighting enemies, rescuing people, and using one location for saving and upgrades. The tension between those elements is not further explained.
What is Red Gate?
Play as a newly recruited sentry whose country is threatened by an army seeking the power beyond an ancient gate.
The game moves between the sentry’s world and the world beyond the gate. In the sentry’s world, use powers and items gained elsewhere to fight enemy forces and rescue people; each person rescued adds a soul to one of 8 vessels. Beyond the gate, gather soul points from inhabitants while avoiding watchful robots, and talk with inhabitants and animals to learn about the world. Soul points fund power-ups, while meat points become coins for buying items. An area between the worlds is used for upgrades, purchases, and saving; it is the game’s only save point.
How Red Gate plays
- 01Two-world structure
- Progress alternates between fighting the invading army and exploring beyond the gate.
- 02Point allocation
- Soul points can buy power-ups, while meat points turn into coins for items.
- 03Single save point
- The space between the two worlds handles saving as well as upgrades and purchases.
