SimulationIs Rat Racer worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Racing simulation fans who want physics-based handling instead of arcade controls
- Players who enjoy practicing throttle, braking, landing, and handbrake techniques
- Racers seeking unpredictable events and open track environments
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking immediately accessible handling may find the driving model difficult to learn
- Racers who want predictable outcomes may dislike random failures, obstructed views, and inconsistent AI behavior
- Players looking for a broad launch roster may find the planned Early Access scope of 1 car and 1 track limited
Our take on Rat Racer
The simulation trades predictable racing for physical and environmental uncertainty. Vehicle failures, driver ejections, blocked views, and inconsistent AI can disrupt a run, while the demanding controls require practice before speed becomes manageable.
What is Rat Racer?
Rat Racer is a car simulation built around real-time Nvidia PhysX calculations rather than arcade handling.
Tracks function as open sandboxes, allowing driving across areas without fixed boundaries and producing variable collisions, jumps, and spins. The driving model has a steep initial learning curve: throttle control, braking, landings, handbrake use, and car orientation affect how the vehicle behaves. Drivers can fall out under strong forces, engines may fail or catch fire, and stuck vehicles respawn after waiting. Races also include unpredictable AI checkpoint errors, random contents in roadside boxes, obstructed views, and changing camera angles. The vendor plans 8 tracks and 8 cars; its Early Access release is planned with 1 car and 1 track.
How Rat Racer plays
- 01Real-Time Vehicle Physics
- Nvidia PhysX calculates driving behavior, impacts, airborne movement, and spins during play.
- 02Open Track Areas
- Cars can travel beyond a fixed racing line across sandbox-style environments with no track boundaries.
- 03Vehicle Failures
- Engines can fail or ignite, while excessive forces can eject the driver from the car.
- 04Variable Race Events
- AI may miss checkpoints and roadside boxes contain unpredictable objects, changing race conditions.
