Our take on Purgatory
The presentation foregrounds an epic premise and pixel art, while the described play centers on map exploration, turn-based fights, spirit recruitment, and skill-point spending. The store copy gives less emphasis to how much of the experience consists of repeated encounters and progression between them.
What is Purgatory?
Purgatory is a turn-based tactical strategy game set in an immortal realm.
After Xzus dies, the story follows his attempt to return to the realm of the living. Players travel across an overworld map, recruit spirits, face increasingly difficult groups of enemies, and ultimately confront the gatekeeper. Skill points can be acquired and spent to improve the character. The game uses pixel art and takes inspiration from the Heroes of Might and Magic series. It is also presented as a prequel to the Data Hacker series.

Purgatory compared to similar games
Purgatory centers on turn-based battles across an overworld, spirit recruitment, and a goal of defeating the gatekeeper. Quasimorph instead combines a high-stakes roguelike structure with corporate contracts, extraction, and persistent gains for a mercenary company. Its setting shifts from an afterlife adventure to cyberpunk body horror and apocalypse-focused operations.
