RPGIs Plains of Havoc worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Roguelite players who enjoy surviving increasingly difficult enemy waves
- Action fans who like choosing different combat upgrades during each run
- Players who want leaderboard competition alongside repeated attempts
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a finite campaign may hit a wall with the unlimited-wave survival structure.
- Players who prefer steady difficulty may find the waves’ increasing strength and eventual overwhelm a poor fit.
- Players looking for a narrative-focused adventure may find the described run-and-upgrade loop too narrow.
Our take on Plains of Havoc
Players who want a clear end to each attempt may bounce when the waves keep escalating without a stated final stage. The pressure point is the survival loop: each wave grows stronger, and a run ends only when the horde overwhelms the player.
What is Plains of Havoc?
Plains of Havoc is a 2D top-down roguelite set in the Viking afterlife.
Each run pits players against unlimited waves of monsters, with later waves growing stronger. Defeating enemies faster speeds up leveling, while survival continues until a wave overwhelms the player. During a run, players choose upgrades to shape their approach, including chain lightning, corpse explosions that spread fire, or berserker-style attacks. After a run ends, permanent upgrades make the character more powerful in subsequent attempts. The game also includes global leaderboards, where players compete for rankings. Its structure centers on surviving increasingly difficult waves, selecting upgrades during each attempt, and returning with permanent improvements after defeat.
