Play it if you…
Good fit- Strategy players who want real-time battlefield decisions
- Roman-history fans seeking campaigns across Egypt, Gaul, and Italy
- Players who enjoy combining units and formations to exploit weaknesses
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking turn-based combat or a slow, pause-heavy pace may find the fast battles unsuitable.
- Players looking for a small-scale squad game may find the armies, troop variety, and war machines too broad in scope.
- Players who prefer a modern or fantastical setting may not want an ancient Roman campaign.
Our take on Praetorians
Rather than centering on a single army, the campaign spans three factions and several regions before confronting the Praetorian Guard. Its battles also make formations and combinations central to progress, replacing a simple force-versus-force structure with unit-specific battlefield roles.
What is Praetorians?
Praetorians is a real-time strategy game set during the rise of the Roman Empire.
Campaigns move through Egypt, Gaul, and Italy as the player pursues the imperial throne. Three armies are available: Gauls, Egyptians, and Roman Legions. Units and characters have distinct abilities and formations, requiring combinations that exploit enemy weaknesses. Battles include different troop types and war machines, each with individual strengths and special skills. The pace is fast, and situations can change quickly during combat. The final stages pit the player against the Emperor’s personal guard, the Praetorian Guard, described as the Empire’s most powerful fighting force.
