Our take on Planet Surfer
Instead of relying only on fixed obstacle-dodging moves, Planet Surfer lets players unlock and combine abilities to tackle courses in different ways. Its VR training-program premise also leads to a final mission whose outcome can change with success or failure.
What is Planet Surfer?
Planet Surfer is a forward-scrolling survival racer with 40+ obstacle-filled levels across 4 biomes.
Players steer through hazards and reach checkpoints, some of which require reflexes, exploration, or puzzle-solving. Coins earned by hitting all checkpoints in a level can be spent in an upgrade shop to unlock abilities, customize the ship, and access bonus levels. Abilities include a temporary dash through obstacles, a jump booster, shrinking, and time-slowing, and can be combined to approach courses in different ways.
Tutorials introduce the game, and a level-selection menu lets players revisit unlocked stages. The story presents the races as part of a VR drone-navigation program, leading to a final mission with alternate endings depending on success or failure. The vendor describes the later tracks as extremely difficult.
