Our take on Phrixothrix
The wordless format puts narrative weight on exploring the environment and solving puzzles. It gives up dialogue as a way to explain events, leaving the player to uncover the strange world through its spaces and discoveries.
What is Phrixothrix?
Investigate a shadowy bunker through point-and-click actions and environmental puzzles.
A device below ground allows control of an extraterrestrial worm, whose movement through concealed passages, gaps, and air shafts reveals further areas and clues about the unfamiliar setting. Rusted surfaces, darkness, and strange surroundings create an atmospheric backdrop, while the game focuses on exploration and curiosity rather than explicit horror. Apart from the opening screen and settings menu, it contains no written language or spoken dialogue.
How Phrixothrix plays
- 01Alien worm control
- A machine on the bunker’s bottom floor lets the player take control of the worm.
- 02Hidden route discovery
- Tunnels, holes, and vents lead to new places where the worm can be sent.
- 03Wordless presentation
- There are no words or dialogue beyond the title screen and options menu.
