Our take on Photonic Distress
Rather than presenting platforming and combat in consistently visible spaces, the game makes illumination part of movement and fighting. Its harder settings replace ordinary level visibility with darkness, requiring the Photon Gun and later scanning equipment to reveal routes and threats.
What is Photonic Distress?
Photonic Distress combines first- and third-person platforming with puzzle-solving and combat.
Players move through procedurally generated dream levels, collecting 100 Memory Fragments to open the final room. A Photon Gun fires colorful projectiles that illuminate routes and attack enemies. Collecting fragments unlocks equipment including a flashlight attachment and a scan grenade that outlines nearby surroundings, highlights points of interest, reveals hidden enemies, and kills spawned ones. Four difficulty settings change lighting, level size, and the rate at which more difficult tiles appear. Easy and Medium illuminate levels, while Hard and Impossible require navigation in darkness. Barricades, traps, pickups, and selectable or randomly generated seeds add variation between runs.
