Our take on Periphery Synthetic
The bounce point arrives when exploration must be understood through sound rather than visuals. Players who rely on combat, danger, or conventional objective markers may also stall at the game's deliberately open, risk-free structure.
What is Periphery Synthetic?
Periphery Synthetic is a non-violent metroidvania set across a desert planet, an ocean world, and an icy moon.
Each world forms part of an interactive EP, with synthesized music and sound that respond to player input. Exploration begins with a terrain scanner and restricted cargo capacity. Materials found across the planets can unlock abilities and improve them over time. The scanner also reveals destinations containing structures and artifacts connected to the expedition's past. There is no combat or death risk, allowing free exploration and experimentation, including extended stays in each environment. The game supports play without visual output through echolocation, terrain sonification, screen-reader menu navigation, and an option to disable graphics.
