Our take on Parry Nightmare
Rather than making attacks the main route through combat, this action game puts parrying at the center: defense stuns enemies and the ally finishes them. The structure makes the player’s role more about timing and managing threats than directly defeating each foe.
What is Parry Nightmare?
Parry Nightmare is an action game built around defense: parries stun enemies, redirect projectiles, and interrupt threats.
Honno-chan automatically defeats foes that have been stunned, leaving the player to focus on parrying. Each successful parry adds courage to the soul, which can restore health; excess soul can be spent on a Burst attack against groups of enemies. Rare foes drop powerups that give Honno-chan abilities such as breathing fire or deploying orbital attacks. Defeated enemies also drop light. Collecting it reduces the nightmare’s darkness and gives a clearer view of the chaos. Filling the light meter is the stated way to beat the nightmare.
How Parry Nightmare plays
- 01Chained parries
- Parries can stun enemies, turn projectiles away, and halt incoming threats.
- 02Automatic ally attacks
- Honno-chan takes down enemies after they have been stunned.
- 03Soul-powered actions
- Parrying builds soul for healing, while surplus soul can fuel a Burst attack against groups.
- 04Rare foe powerups
- Collected powerups grant Honno-chan abilities including fire attacks and orbital strikes.
- 05Light meter objective
- Enemies drop light that clears some of the darkness, and filling the meter beats the nightmare.
