Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking one uninterrupted character progression may bounce off Boardgame mode when each new dungeon resets the character to level 1.
- Players who dislike dice-dependent outcomes may hit a wall in Boardgame mode, where combat results are affected by dice rolls.
- Players wanting multiplayer sessions may not find a match, since the four listed modes are single-player.
Our take on Paper Dungeons
The main bounce point is the split progression model: Boardgame mode resets the character for each dungeon, while Campaign and Rogue preserve development. Players expecting one uninterrupted build may lose momentum when entering the Boardgame sequence.
What is Paper Dungeons?
Paper Dungeons is a fantasy board-game RPG built around dice, tokens, hidden dungeon areas, monsters, equipment and character attributes.
Boardgame mode offers 125 levels, random encounters and fog of war, while Campaign mode links up to 10 dungeons with dialogue and retains the character and inventory between them. Rogue mode preserves progression until defeat, with dice sets carrying into later runs. Puzzle mode shows the dungeon layout, keeps monsters static and requires planned moves. Five character classes, 80+ monster types, more than 50 equipment pieces, 30 scrolls and 8 potions provide different play options. Map and campaign editors support user-created content that can be published online and played in Adventure or Puzzle modes.
