- Players who want battles without enemy activity during the player's turn may hit a wall with the active turn-based system.
- Players looking for a game without exploration, encounter choices, or item creation may find its scope unsuitable.
Our take on Oracle of Forgotten Testament
Players who prefer fully paused, turn-by-turn planning may hit a wall when combat begins, because the active turn-based system keeps enemies involved while commands are selected. Players seeking one complete story may also stop at the episodic structure.
What is Oracle of Forgotten Testament?
Oracle of Forgotten Testament is a chapter-based, turn-driven RPG drawing on the Touhou games.
Its plot starts when Marisa discovers an unusual book in the Scarlet Devil Mansion library, setting off another incident in Gensokyo. Players take several Touhou characters through the region as they investigate events. Combat follows an active turn order, with spellcards and skills offering alternatives to basic attacks and applying varied effects. In encounters placed throughout the world, players can attack, withdraw, proceed cautiously, or defeat monsters for experience. Alchemy lets players make travel items from recipes they have learned. The opening episode also features dowsing: searching for treasure with a rod while avoiding enemies. New episodes are set to arrive through game updates.
