Our take on Onikira - Demon Killer
The likely sticking point is the shift from ordinary attacks to combat that depends on platforming movement: wall jumps, grappling and weapon-specific moves all enter the same encounters. Players who do not want to manage those systems may bounce off once fights demand more than close-range button presses.
What is Onikira - Demon Killer?
Onikira: Demon Killer is a 2D side-scrolling beat ’em up set in a fantasy version of feudal Japan.
Players control samurai Yamazaki Jiro and fight demons from Yomi across seven areas. Combat combines platforming actions—including wall jumps, wall runs and grappling—with attacks from four weapons: sword, tetsubo, naginata and arm blades. Each weapon has unlockable moves, and chaining moves raises the score multiplier. Enemies have different vulnerabilities, while environmental hazards such as spikes and collapsing structures can be used during fights. The game also includes two mini-bosses and two major bosses. Collected souls can be traded for moves at rifts, or used to restore health. Challenge arenas offer combat tasks and Steam leaderboards.
