Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players looking for a slow-paced experience may find the repeated shooting and enemy encounters too action-focused.
- Those seeking a broad set of activities beyond combat, upgrades and fleet management may find the gameplay loop narrow.
- Players looking for a non-VR game may prefer a title built around standard screen-based play.
Our take on NIGHTSTAR: Alliance
The focus on repeatable arcade combat gives ship upgrades, fleet control and high scores a central role, while leaving less room for activities outside that loop. The story appears through in-game scenes alongside battles rather than as a separate mode.
What is NIGHTSTAR: Alliance?
This virtual-reality arcade shooter puts players at the helm of a well-armed battlecruiser in a conflict with hostile artificial intelligence.
Players destroy opposing vessels, then modify their ship using attached weapons, support equipment, shields and other enhancements. A second cruiser can be assembled, allowing an armada to be created and its supplies controlled while the fleet contributes to battles. The narrative concerns Terra survivors who unite and travel toward refuge in the Outer Rim, with story scenes presented during play. Missions may be replayed for higher scores, and regional and internet ranking boards track performance. Available armaments include blasters, flak cannons, lasers, rocket launchers and nuclear weapons.
