Our take on Nightmare on Azathoth
The store emphasis on escape and mystery understates how much of the play loop concerns hunger, base upkeep, resource collection, saving, and ammunition management. Multiplayer is also presented briefly beside a primarily survival-focused structure, so it may not represent the main activity.
What is Nightmare on Azathoth?
Manage a base on a dark planet while searching buildings for food, meteorite, fuel, resources, and memory fragments.
A spaceship requires fuel and meteorite before escape is possible, while sustenance, health, weapons, and base operations must be maintained. Robots can collect resources or items marked for retrieval. Outside the base, darkness limits visibility, so a flashlight and radar assist exploration. Enemy numbers grow over time, and the silent ones can blend into darkness, teleporting if targeting takes too long.
Death restarts the fourth day. Saving consumes converted matter and preserves the current time and accumulated resources, but also restores the world and can reset ammunition and weapons. The game includes multiplayer features involving world invasions, summoned enemies, and playing from an enemy perspective.
