Our take on Morphblade
Instead of giving a character a fixed weapon set, the game makes each grid position part of the arsenal. Movement therefore serves as both navigation and attack selection, while upgrades turn the board itself into a layered combat system.
What is Morphblade?
Morphblade is a grid-based action game about fighting waves of red bugs with weapons determined by the tiles underfoot.
Blades attack enemies on either side while moving, Arrows propel the character through enemies, Hammers strike one target without movement, and other tiles repair damage, teleport across the grid, or remove enemy armour. Between waves, players choose additions to the grid and improve frequently used tile types. Any two tile types can be combined, giving one weapon properties from another; upgrades can also be layered. This allows combinations such as an armoured-enemy-killing Arrow or a Hammer that attacks several enemies at once. Killing bugs provides the upgrades used to develop the grid.
How Morphblade plays
- 01Weapon-changing tiles
- Each grid tile assigns a different attack or movement effect when entered.
- 02Between-wave building
- The grid can be expanded and selected tile types improved after each wave.
- 03Cross-bred abilities
- Tile types can inherit properties from every other type, such as armour removal or healing.
- 04Layered upgrades
- Multiple improvements can be combined on one tile to create several effects.
