Our take on Moondrop
The farming premise may suggest a stable homestead, but the central loop repeatedly removes the mountain farm and sends resources back to Oncewas. Progress depends on rebuilding the village and applying discoveries to another attempt.
What is Moondrop?
Moondrop combines farming, exploration, crafting, alchemy, and roguelite progression on a mountain whose layout changes between attempts.
Crops need suitable neighboring plants to flower, while unusual varieties can move, duplicate, or consume nearby crops. Trails contain seeds, perks, blueprints, puzzles, fishing, treasure, and secrets. When the vanishing mists arrive, return collected goods to Oncewas, an abandoned village. Rebuilding the village brings back residents such as blacksmiths and fortune tellers, who unlock upgrades and powers for later farms. Discoveries and earned seeds carry into new attempts as the farmer works toward the summit.
How Moondrop plays
- 01Pattern-based farming
- Crops need suitable neighboring plants, while some varieties move, replicate, or consume adjacent crops.
- 02Changing mountain trails
- Procedurally generated paths contain seeds, perks, blueprints, puzzles, fishing, treasure, and hidden secrets.
- 03Village reconstruction
- Resources from each farm can restore Oncewas and bring back residents who provide upgrades for later attempts.
- 04Mist delay mechanic
- Growing mistberries can keep the farm active for a few more days before the vanishing mists arrive.
- 05Run-based progression
- Discoveries and earned seeds carry into subsequent farms as attempts advance toward the summit.
