Our take on Misericorde: Volume One
The defining constraint is the protagonist’s anchoress oath: she must investigate a murder while remaining tied to a cell she has sworn never to leave.
What is Misericorde: Volume One?
Set in an English convent in 1482, Misericorde: Volume One is the opening chapter of a mystery visual novel series.
Sister Catherine, a respected nun and outspoken thinker, has been murdered, and any of the remaining Sisters could be responsible. The player takes the role of an anchoress, whose religious oath forbids leaving her cell and whose duties normally involve prayer and spiritual support. Because this restriction makes her an unlikely suspect, she is brought into the wider congregation to investigate the killing.
The case involves determining which Sisters are truthful, who is concealing information, whether the convent is haunted, and whether the murderer may target the investigator next. The convent also faces the possibility of being closed by the bishop if the crime remains unresolved.
