SimulationIs MHRD worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Players interested in hardware design who want to build circuits through written specifications.
- Puzzle-game players who enjoy verifying designs and reusing components in larger systems.
- Players curious about constructing a CPU through a structured sequence of circuit-design tasks.
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players looking for action-focused gameplay, since the central activity is writing and checking circuit designs.
- Those seeking open-ended variety across repeated sessions may find the progression focused on increasingly complex hardware specifications.
- Players who do not want to work with a hardware description language may find the main design workflow unsuitable.
Our take on MHRD
Rather than centering on physical construction or factory management, MHRD makes circuit design itself the progression: written specifications lead from individual components toward a CPU. Its main activity is creating, simulating, and reusing hardware designs.
What is MHRD?
MHRD is a hardware design game in which players write circuit designs using the MHRD hardware description language.
An integrated development environment is used to create circuits from specifications, then simulate and verify those designs. The work grows in complexity: completed circuits can be reused as parts of larger designs, with the stated goal of creating a fully functional CPU. More than 20 specifications cover components such as multiplexers, adders, an ALU, and RAM. The game is set at a technology startup in the 1980s, and includes a manual for getting started with its design workflow.
How MHRD plays
- 01Circuit specifications
- The design tasks cover more than 20 component types, including adders, RAM, and an ALU.
- 02Circuit simulation
- Created designs can be simulated and checked before they are reused in larger circuits.
- 03Reusable designs
- Completed components can serve as building blocks for increasingly complex hardware.
- 04Getting-started manual
- An included manual introduces the game's hardware design workflow.
