OtherIs Mechanica worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Players who enjoy designing automated bases more than following a fixed quest sequence
- Groups of friends who want to build and survive together
- Players who prefer open-world construction and programming over story-focused exploration
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a tightly paced, mission-driven campaign may find the open-ended structure lacks that direction.
- Players who want a finished game with an ongoing stream of updates may be poorly served because development has halted.
- Solo players looking for a survival game centered on solitary play may not want its multiplayer emphasis.
Our take on Mechanica
Mechanica trades ongoing development for its current building and automation sandbox: development has halted, so players should not expect the planned future updates to arrive on a regular schedule.
What is Mechanica?
Play as a sentient robot in a post-apocalyptic open world.
Establish a base, explore the map, and build or fortify locations. Set up defenses against increasingly aggressive robots, and create manufacturing systems that produce items. A visual programming system lets players connect objects and devices, such as triggering a flamethrower with a tripwire or controlling a mining outpost remotely. The game supports multiplayer with up to 8 invited friends on dedicated hosted servers. Mechanica’s development has been halted, with further updates planned for the foreseeable future.
How Mechanica plays
- 01Visual automation
- Connect devices to trigger actions, lock down a base, or control an outpost from elsewhere on the map.
- 02Automated manufacturing
- Production systems can make items without requiring players to craft each one manually.
- 03Hosted multiplayer
- Invite up to 8 friends to play together on dedicated hosted servers.
- 04Robot defenses
- Build defensive systems to hold off increasingly aggressive robots.
