Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking combat-heavy gameplay may bounce off the focus on crafting, possession, exploration, and puzzles.
- Players who want open-ended replayability may hit a wall once the story’s biome and mask progression is complete.
- Players without interest in VR-specific interactions may find the control and puzzle structure unsuitable.
Our take on Maskmaker
The bounce point arrives when progression depends on crafting and wearing masks to enter new biomes. Players looking for combat, freeform exploration, or a conventional adventure interface may lose interest at the first sustained crafting-and-possession loop.
What is Maskmaker?
Play as a maskmaker’s apprentice in a mysterious realm shaped by masks, puzzles, and hidden identities.
Explore eight biomes, observe their cultures, gather rare resources, and create masks with different paints and shapes. Wearing each mask lets the apprentice blend into a biome and inhabit its spirits, including colorful characters with distinct roles. Progression moves between mask crafting and exploration as new masks provide access to additional areas. Prospero’s workshop introduces the apprentice to maskmaking while the story investigates who Prospero really is. The game uses VR-specific interactions for its gameplay and puzzles, framing the journey as an apprenticeship involving power, discovery, and story twists.
