Play it if you…
Good fit- Fans of retro side-scrolling action games who want weapon-based combat and platforming
- Players who enjoy repeating levels to improve completion times
- Completion-focused players interested in secrets, challenges, collectibles, and enemy records
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a relaxed or forgiving pace may find the demanding platforming and continuous Speedrun Mode restrictive

- Players who do not enjoy replaying stages for faster times may have little use for the Time Trials and leaderboards
Our take on Magnetta
The focus on classic side-scrolling action gives Magnetta a concentrated structure, but that emphasis leaves less room for slower exploration or broader role-playing systems. Replay modes add repeatable goals, while the continuous Speedrun format removes the option to retry after mistakes.
What is Magnetta?
Magnetta is a side-scrolling action game with jumping, shooting, sliding, enemy combat, weapon collection, upgrades, and hidden areas.
The story follows Magnetta’s attempt to rescue a kidnapped prince and missing royal guard from Aether. Levels include a Glitch mode with shifting tilesets and a distorted cartridge-style presentation. Time Trials record the fastest completion for each level, while Speedrun Mode tracks one continuous time across a full playthrough. Challenge Mode adds themed tasks. Collectible circuits unlock cosmetic changes and bonus abilities. The game includes 8 unlockable weapons, customizable controls, visual filtering options, online leaderboards, and a bestiary containing enemy information such as weaknesses and kill counts.
How Magnetta plays

- 02Speedrun Mode

- 03Glitch Levels
- Tilesets shift during these stages, which use a distorted visual style resembling a dirty game cartridge.
- 04Eight Weapons
- Unlockable weapons change how enemies are destroyed and how levels are traversed.
- 05Challenge Mode
- The mode contains a range of themed challenges to clear.
- 06Unlockable Extras
- Collectible circuits grant cosmetic changes and bonus abilities.
- 07Enemy Bestiary

- 08Visual Filters
- Display options include pixel-perfect rendering, scanlines, and anisotropic filtering.
