Our take on Maestro VR
Its focus on conducting makes musical control the central activity, but that leaves little room for unrelated gameplay systems. The career, finances, talents, and collecting all support concert direction rather than providing separate genres or activities.
What is Maestro VR?
Conduct orchestras in VR by using both hands to control tempo, dynamics, cues, fermatas, and other musical gestures.
Career progression runs from aspirant to Maestro and includes rehearsals, performances, Pro performances, reputation, finances, critics, ranks, talents, and baton equipment. Concerts involve selecting halls, funding arrangements, advertising, musicians’ wages, ticket revenue, and post-show financial reports. The game includes 38 instruments and voices, up to nearly 100 musicians on stage, six halls, eight masterclass lessons, and a talent tree with almost 50 talents. A separate free desktop Level Editor supports custom pieces, MIDI import, multitrack audio, gesture scores, animated musicians, and Steam Workshop sharing.
How Maestro VR plays
- 01Dual-hand conducting
- The right hand controls the beat while the left shapes musical expression, with gestures for cues, crescendos, accents, and fermatas.
- 02Career progression
- Concert results affect experience, money, reputation from 0 to 5 stars, honorary ranks, and four performance milestones for each piece.
- 03Concert finances
- Each event can use self-funding, a patron, or one of four advertising levels, followed by a report covering attendance, costs, revenue, taxes, and profit.
- 04Talent specializations
- Almost 50 talents span Conducting, Leadership, and Expression, with passive abilities, equipped techniques, trade-offs, and branch-ending mastery talents.
- 05Custom level editor
- The separate desktop editor supports MIDI import, instrument-by-instrument orchestras, independent audio tracks, gesture scoring, previews, and Steam Workshop publishing.
- 06Conducting masterclass
- Eight lessons combine voiced teaching, controller-based exams, explanations, practical conducting tasks, and a recorded academic grade.
- 07VR comfort controls
- Settings include left-handed play, automatic height adjustment, latency offset, gesture sensitivity, vibration modes, seated or standing calibration, and instant pausing.
