Is Lightmatter worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Players who enjoy first-person puzzle games more than combat-focused adventures
- Puzzle fans who prefer interpreting environments over solving dialogue or inventory challenges
- Adventure players who want light and shadows to shape how they navigate spaces
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players who want forgiving traversal may hit a wall when a misstep into darkness can be fatal
- Those who prefer combat or character progression may find the focus on environmental puzzles too narrow
- Players seeking a climbing-focused journey may prefer a game built around routes, tools, and stamina
Our take on Lightmatter
The bounce point comes when darkness becomes a lethal obstacle rather than just part of the scenery. Players who move ahead without studying the light and planning a route may get stuck at gaps where positioning and puzzle-solving determine whether they can proceed.
What is Lightmatter?
Lightmatter is a first-person puzzle game set in a facility operated by Lightmatter Technologies.
Players examine their surroundings and use lights, shadows, beams, platforms, and lightmatter to solve environmental puzzles. Darkness is deadly, making gaps and dark sections of the floor hazards that call for careful movement and planning. The game focuses on lateral thinking and on working out how light interacts with the environment. David Bateson plays Virgil, the company’s CEO, who introduces the facility’s renewable-energy project. The setting includes a central energy core intended to provide power to millions, as well as a possible encounter with a cat named Lux.
