Our take on Leash
Rather than opening into exploration, combat, or social systems, this short game confines its character to a fixed area and reduces play to basic daily actions. Its central structure is observation and repetition, making restriction itself the main departure from typical adventure design.
What is Leash?
Leash is a serious short game built around metaphor.
It presents an unfamiliar world with vivid colors and pixel graphics, while warning that it contains major story spoilers. The player character is cursed and cannot leave the boundaries of the area. There is no adventure, combat, or interaction with others. Instead, the available activities are limited to watching the sun set and rise, eating when hungry, and occasionally experiencing loneliness. The game replaces conventional exploration and progression with a restricted routine centered on confinement and the passage of time.
How Leash plays
- 01Restricted Routine
- The character watches day and night pass, eats when hungry, and sometimes feels lonely.
- 02Confined Setting
- A curse prevents the player character from leaving the designated area.
- 03Pixel Presentation
- The unfamiliar world uses vivid colors and pixel-based graphics.
