Our take on Koboo: The Tree Spirit
Rather than centering every run on combat, Koboo pairs its hunter battles with fishing, bug catching, and gardening. Its death-and-retry structure also connects build choices and timing to later attempts, while exploration follows branching forest paths.
What is Koboo: The Tree Spirit?
Koboo is a 2D action roguelite platformer where a small tree spirit fights towering hunters by striking their weak points.
Each run combines combat with positioning and timing, while branching upgrades for dual-wielded weapons and animal abilities let players shape a build. The forest has 7 worlds, each with its own enemies and final boss, plus paths to explore and secrets to uncover. Between boss fights, players can fish, catch bugs, and tend a garden.
Collecting seeds, bugs, fish, and befriending forest animals earns Favor, which can be spent in a shop on weapons, abilities, infusions, relics, and upgrades for later runs. Death leads into another attempt, with builds and skillful play carrying forward. The game also offers accessibility options, controller support, and control rebinding.
