Our take on KIN
KIN departs from the usual platformer setup by retaining a virtual reality mode alongside a traditional non-VR camera and control system. Its structure also places puzzle solving, enemy encounters, and boss fights within an abstract journey across alien ruins rather than focusing on platforming alone.
What is KIN?
KIN combines platforming puzzles and combat on a remote world shaped by a vanished culture.
Players control a mysterious little girl in a vivid dress as she jumps across platforms, solves environmental challenges, and battles foes while a story emerges through the journey. Areas feature varied alien scenery, abstract visuals, bright colours, and demanding boss encounters. The game retains its original virtual reality option and adds a camera setup with controls for conventional play without VR. Its stages bring together traversal, puzzle solving, enemy fights, and narrative progression across different landscapes.
How KIN plays
- 01Virtual Reality Support
- The original VR mode is available alongside the game's non-VR control setup.
- 02Non-VR Mode
- A separate camera and input system allows play as a traditional platformer.
- 03Puzzle Platforming
- Progress combines platform-to-platform movement with environmental puzzles.
- 04Combat Encounters
- Enemies and challenging boss fights interrupt exploration across the alien landscapes.
- 05Ancient Planet Setting
- The journey passes through the remains of an old civilization on a distant world.
KIN compared to similar games
KIN combines platforming, environmental puzzles, combat, boss fights, and VR or non-VR play. Jusant centers on climbing, stamina management, exploration, and a meditative journey, while Sundered: Eldritch Edition is described as a chaotic metroidvania. KIN's listed structure is also distinct from the runner-shooter focus of SUPER CHICKEN JUMPER.
