Our take on Kanji in Motion
The game-like framing may suggest broader Japanese study, but its stated scope is narrower: timed recognition of kana and kanji readings or meanings. It does not present writing, grammar, or conversation exercises as part of the current program.
What is Kanji in Motion?
Kanji in Motion is a game-like Japanese reading practice program covering hiragana, katakana, and the 2,136 Jōyō Kanji.
Each round places five to ten characters on a playing field, where they move across the screen. The player uses the mouse to drag each character to its romanization, reading, or meaning before time runs out. Characters can be selected from one of the three character tables or chosen randomly. Kanji readings can appear in kana or romanization, and three time limits are available. Repeated success with randomly selected characters automatically raises the difficulty. The program also provides immediate round results, help texts, a glossary, and a background-audio toggle. It runs on Windows and macOS.
