Play it if you…
Good fit- Visual-novel fans who want card-based duels alongside story choices
- Deck-building players who enjoy dark fantasy settings and character relationships
- Players seeking a story campaign with investigations and multiple endings
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking open-ended deck building may find the single-semester story structure restrictive
- Those looking for large-scale battles may find the focus on individual duels too narrow
- Players uninterested in visual-novel storytelling and relationship development may find the narrative sections distracting
Our take on Kamifuda
The game trades open-ended progression for a defined academic scenario: Tarot has one semester to complete the Trials. That structure gives the card battles and investigations a clear narrative timetable, but limits the setting to a focused campaign rather than an indefinite school simulation.
What is Kamifuda?
Kamifuda combines visual-novel storytelling with deck-building and card duels.
As Tarot, a Pact-sworn student at Gloamrot University, players have one semester to pass the institution’s Trials while learning to control eldritch powers. Exploration across the hidden campus reveals secrets, encounters, and a conspiracy threatening the school. The card system includes nine schools of eldritch magic and more than 100 unique cards, with opponents offering distinct personalities and play styles. Alongside 25 or more duels and 25 or more story encounters, choices affect Tarot and other characters. Four character bonds can be developed, and investigations can lead to multiple endings.
