ActionIs KAIKAN worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Arcade shooter fans who want score-focused runs
- Players who enjoy choosing between aircraft with different weapon behavior
- Shoot-'em-up players who want item-ranking and bomb-management mechanics
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a long campaign may find five stages too limited in scope.
- Players who prefer forgiving continuation systems may hit a wall when entering the true final boss battle without continuing.
- Players looking for exploration, branching progression, or role-playing systems may find the stage-based arcade structure narrow.
Our take on KAIKAN
Score-focused players may bounce at the item-ranking system: missing collectibles lowers the rank, while collecting them requires managing the shot button to attract or release items. The true boss battle adds another hard stop because continuing is unavailable after entry.
What is KAIKAN?
KAIKAN is a vertical-scrolling shooter built around enemy destruction and high scores.
Players choose from six aircraft, each with different weapon behavior, including napalm, wide shots, homing attacks, screen-covering fire, high-power blasts, and a rotating bullet-erasing ball. Destroyed enemies release items that raise item rank and score; missing them lowers the rank. Releasing the shot button attracts items, while pressing it again drops them. A filled bomb gauge stores one bomb and can trigger an automatic barrier when the aircraft is hit. Bombs convert enemy bullets into bonus items and affect boss scoring through a counter. Five stages include boss encounters, with BOSS MEDAL totals used during the final boss battle.
How KAIKAN plays
- 01Six Aircraft Types
- The selectable aircraft use distinct weapons such as homing attacks, napalm explosions, wide shots, and bullet-erasing projectiles.
- 02Ranked Bonus Items
- Collecting dropped items raises their rank and score, while missed items reduce the rank by one level.
- 03Bomb Mechanics
- Bombs transform bullets into bonus items, damage enemies, and can trigger a stored-hit barrier when the aircraft is struck.
- 04Boss Score Counter
- A counter tracks items used against bosses and contributes to boss and boss-part scoring.
- 05Five-Stage Structure
- The game presents five stages and uses BOSS MEDAL totals during the final boss encounter.
