Our take on Island of Penance
Players looking for a straightforward detective story may bounce off when Illumina must perform favors for guards and wardens to obtain information. The combat route can also become a sticking point as enemies grow stronger and additional Magic Crests are needed for access to more elements.
What is Island of Penance?
After her father, Dr.
Brian, dies in a suspicious accident, Illumina becomes a prison guard to investigate what happened. She is the first woman in the nation to hold the role, entering an island prison controlled by wardens and guards who use their authority without restraint. To find information, she must perform favors, uncover clues, and move through the prison’s various blocks. These favors often lead to combat with inmates and officials. Illumina can cast a non-elemental spell and use Magic Crests to access every element, provided she obtains additional crests. Battles involve exploiting enemy weaknesses, while missions and exploration advance the investigation into her father’s death and the prison’s corrupt hierarchy.
