Our take on Island Bender
The defining mechanic is using rocks for both combat and movement: throws can propel the player, while rocks can also be caught, returned, or held as shields.
What is Island Bender?
Island Bender is a local multiplayer brawler where players pull rocks from islands and nearby objects, charge throws, and launch them at opponents.
Rocks have weight and momentum, break on impact, and can send fragments across the arena. Players score points by hitting opponents with rocks or debris, with the highest score winning. Power-ups alter the rocks, including larger projectiles, triple throws, bouncing impacts, fragmenting shots, and spikes. These upgrades can also be combined. Rocks serve as weapons and movement tools: throwing one can propel the player backward, while held rocks can block incoming attacks. Players can also catch thrown rocks and return them. Matches support up to six players or bots on the same screen.
How Island Bender plays
- 01Physics-Based Projectiles
- Rocks carry weight and momentum, then split apart when they strike something.
- 02Combined Power-Ups
- Collected upgrades can be mixed to change rock size, quantity, bounce, spread, or impact behavior.
- 03Rock Movement Tools
- Throwing a rock can launch the player backward, creating options for jumping, dodging, and reaching other areas.
- 04Defensive Rock Use
- Held rocks absorb incoming projectiles and can break them apart.
- 05Six-Player Local Play
- Matches support up to six players or computer-controlled opponents on one screen.
