Our take on Into the Nightmare
The defining structure is the Guardian Stone system: each investigator has a personal selection of stones that can be exchanged to alter skills, passive abilities, and elemental affinities.
What is Into the Nightmare?
Mangetsu is a modern Japanese city invaded by creatures emerging from parallel Dream Worlds.
Yatsuha and her allies from Yamanashi Energy Labs investigate supernatural activity, explore the city, seal the Dream Worlds, and defend the city. Combat uses a turn-based system in which investigators draw on skills connected to backgrounds such as martial arts and shrine practices. Guardian Stones add skills, passive abilities, and elemental affinities, and can be swapped to change each character’s capabilities. Each investigator has a distinct selection of stones to collect and use. Exploration and investigation uncover equipment and enemies, while battles involve interactions among twelve elemental affinities for attacking weaknesses or strengthening defenses.
