Our take on Instinct
Players who want a stable viewpoint may hit a wall when the game shifts between first-person and third-person action. Those expecting a purely combat-focused campaign may also bounce at the cinematics and graphic novel material that carry part of the story.
What is Instinct?
Follow three members of an elite American covert-operations squad after they are separated inside a North Korean complex.
A government experiment involving a protovirus goes wrong, releasing an outbreak that decays the mind while strengthening the body. Each character faces enemy special forces, danger, and unexplained events alone. The game combines first-person and third-person action, with cinematics and a graphic novel supporting its story. Combat includes enemies that flank positions, throw grenades, and attack cover to force movement. Its 3D engine features HDR imaging, depth of field, physics, dynamic lighting, and shadows. Mistakes can lead to corruption or death as the squad investigates the infected facility.
How Instinct plays
- 01Three Playable Characters
- The campaign follows separate members of an elite American military unit as they confront the outbreak alone.
- 02Adaptive Enemy Tactics
- Opponents can circle a position, use grenades, and attack cover to drive characters into the open.
- 03Story Presentation
- Cinematics and a full-length graphic novel provide additional narrative context for the characters and events.
- 04Dynamic Visual Effects
- The game engine supports HDR imaging, real-time depth of field, physics, lighting, and shadows.
