Our take on In Death
The store page foregrounds the game's systems and replay structure, while the Early Access presentation also acknowledges that more content is planned before full release. That places the current experience in an evolving state rather than presenting a finished content scope.
What is In Death?
In Death is a VR shooter with roguelike structure, set in a deserted medieval afterlife.
Each run generates a different world with randomized maps, enemies, and loot. Combat centers on a longbow, shield, and special arrows, including a teleport arrow that also controls movement. A teleport shard enables short dashes and strafes, while free movement is available as an alternative. Death removes progress from the current run, but account progression continues through achievements that unlock items, raise baseline stats, and introduce tougher enemies. Global leaderboards record all-time top 10 and 24-hour rankings, alongside personal run statistics. The game includes seated or standing play, handedness options, snap rotation, and a demo mode for friends.
How In Death plays
- 01Procedural Runs
- Maps, enemy encounters, and loot placements change between playthroughs.
- 02Bow And Shield
- The longbow handles ranged attacks, while the shield blocks projectiles and close threats and can bash nearby enemies.
- 03Teleport Movement
- A teleport arrow moves the player to any reachable shot location, while a throwable shard supports short dashes and strafes.
- 04Persistent Achievements
- Achievements carry between runs and unlock equipment, higher starting statistics, and stronger enemy types.
- 05Global Leaderboards
- Rankings include all-time top 10 positions and a 24-hour leaderboard, with personal statistics for comparison.
- 06Demo Mode
- Friends can play through a tutorial without changing the account's existing progression.
In Death compared to similar games
Abyssus is a multiplayer roguelite shooter built around playing with friends, hand-crafted levels, and weapons modified with ancient technologies. In Death instead uses VR bow-and-shield combat, procedurally generated runs, teleport-based movement, and achievement-linked progression. The other listed games do not share this combination of roguelite shooting and comparable combat scope.
