Our take on In Celebration of Violence
The game departs from familiar fantasy adventures by withholding much of its explanation. Basic controls are provided, but secrets, item behavior, and wider systems must be deciphered during repeated lives, making discovery part of the challenge alongside combat.
What is In Celebration of Violence?
This fantasy combat roguelike combines exploration with permanent death.
Encounters demand careful timing for attacks, evasive moves, guarding, and counterattacks, with surroundings and foes shaping each decision. Randomly formed regions link grasslands, wetlands, urban areas, and underground stages, offering branching journeys toward several end bosses. Fire, electrical energy, heat, climate, water, and burnable scenery affect one another. Shrines grant gifts, enhancements, or equipment, but each deity sets its own cost and may react negatively to certain choices.
Weapons, magic, objects, and keepsakes alter possibilities from one life to the next. Experience, plans, slain bosses, characters, gear, and perks carry progress forward. Controls are introduced, while many systems and secrets require investigation. Four local players may control monsters, undead creatures, or outlaws alongside the hero.

Vagante is another dark-fantasy adventure involving dangerous lands, monsters, demons, and crooks. In Celebration of Violence instead emphasizes deliberate attacks, blocks, parries, environmental interactions, shrines, mementos, and progression across repeated lives. Ghost of a Tale focuses on stealth, disguises, conversations, and exploration as a mouse in an animal-populated medieval world, while In Celebration of Violence centers on combat, branching routes, final bosses, and local multiplayer.
