Our take on IMAGO: Beyond the Nightmares
Its defining structure alternates detective work in the real world with survival stages inside Marty’s imagined world.
What is IMAGO: Beyond the Nightmares?
Play Marty Burton, a former detective whose hallucinations lead into a hostile place between dreams and reality.
Hired to investigate a child’s disappearance on fog-covered Quiet Island, Marty encounters an ecological disaster and a figure from his past. The story moves between real-world investigations and imagined survival stages. In investigations, talk with characters, search for documents, and gather clues. In the other stages, evade creatures by running, hiding, or moving stealthily, and solve environmental puzzles. Some real-world threats can also be faced with a gun. Actions include crawling, examining items, reading documents, and using a flashlight. Arthur, Marty’s rag puppet assistant, provides puzzle clues and observations. The level-based story includes flashbacks about Marty’s past and psyche.
