Our take on IDEA
The game’s focused rolling-lightbulb mechanic keeps interaction narrow: progress depends on guiding a single journey and making limited interventions, rather than managing characters, combat, or branching objectives. Its shared writing and collection elements add context around that central movement without broadening the core controls.
What is IDEA?
IDEA sends a white lightbulb across landscapes filmed in 4K, viewed from above as it rolls, falls, and rebounds from screen edges.
Obstacles such as houses, trees, and guardrails can stop it; twice on each screen, the path can be cleared to continue the journey. If the lightbulb stops before reaching its destination, a written thought, song fragment, or verse can be left for other players to find. New journeys reveal messages from others, with options to save favorites and track how often an idea has been saved. Achievements provide additional message icons. When the lightbulb remains in motion until the soundtrack ends, it reaches its destination and unlocks artwork for a gallery.
How IDEA plays
- 01Landscape exploration
- The lightbulb travels through drone-recorded 4K environments without transitions between screens.
- 02Obstacle clearing
- Each screen permits two interventions to move the lightbulb away from something blocking its route.
- 03Player messages
- A journey that ends early can leave text near its stopping point for later travelers to encounter.
- 04Idea saving
- Players can bookmark favored messages and view how many saves their own contributions receive.
- 05Gallery unlocks
- Reaching the destination while the music continues opens new visual-art pieces.
