Our take on I Shall Remain
Its layered survival systems give combat and progression more context, but they also add recurring upkeep. Infection, tiredness, repairs, scavenging, and serum spending compete for attention alongside quests and combat, making the experience less direct than a combat-only action RPG.
What is I Shall Remain?
This post-apocalyptic action RPG follows two brothers in an alternate-history United States after a deadly virus is released near the end of World War II.
The game combines combat, survival systems, strategic decisions, and character development. Players can use more than 30 weapons, grenades, mines, vehicles, and environmental objects against infected enemies, including foes with more than 20 mutations. Experience from actions develops attributes and skills, while up to 128 doctrines add abilities or improve existing traits.
Traders exchange serum and supplies, weapons can be repaired, and dialogue choices shape story branches. Weather, day and night, infection, tiredness, scavenging, and building exploration affect the journey. Up to seven AI teammates can accompany the player and receive equipment, stat improvements, and assigned paths.

I Shall Remain compared to similar games
I Shall Remain combines action-RPG combat with infection, fatigue, weapon maintenance, scavenging, traders, and AI teammate management. Alpha Protocol™ also centers on an action-RPG story, but its listed description focuses on agent Michael Thorton and an international catastrophe rather than survival-system management. Ghost of a Tale emphasizes exploration, stealth, disguises, and conversations in an animal-populated medieval world, while I Shall Remain focuses on infected enemies, firearms, survival upkeep, and team development.
