Our take on Hope
Rather than treating failure as a reset, Hope makes a qualifying mistake part of the level-solving method. The resulting block changes the next attempt, while an optional removal step allows correction. This replaces straightforward retrying with a three-part cycle of failure, repetition, and adjustment.
What is Hope?
Hope is a puzzle-platform game built around mistakes as part of level progression.
Players control a square through puzzle stages and deliberately fail under specific conditions to create a block at the location of failure. The character then respawns, allowing the level to be attempted again with that block in place. An optional removal mechanic deletes the most recently created block when it occupies an unwanted position. Progress depends on judging when to miss, where the resulting block will appear, and how to use it on the next attempt. The game combines platforming challenges, motivational phrases, music, sound effects, and mechanics involving strategy, reaction speed, and spatial vision.
How Hope plays
- 01Mistake-Based Progression
- A failed attempt can place a block in the level when the object causing the death is white.
- 02Repeatable Level Attempts
- The square returns after a failure so the stage can be played again with the newly created block.
- 03Block Removal
- The latest block can be deleted when it was created in an unsuitable location.
- 04Puzzle Platforming
- Several puzzle levels combine movement challenges with strategy, reaction speed, and spatial vision.
