Play it if you…
Good fit- Action-RPG players who want repeated runs with permanent world improvements
- Players who enjoy permadeath systems and varied weapon loadouts
- Players interested in rebuilding towns alongside combat and exploration
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players who want a single uninterrupted campaign may hit the wall when a Traveler's death ends that journey.
- Players seeking a narrowly focused combat game may find the rebuilding, town upgrades, investments, and exploration systems distracting.
- Players who want only traditional fantasy weapons may not want handguns and grenade launchers in the weapon mix.
Our take on Holomento
The bounce point arrives when a death removes the current Traveler and sends the run back to the resting place. Players who do not want to repeat dangerous journeys while relying on persistent Hollow improvements may stop there.
What is Holomento?
Holomento is a permadeath action RPG set in Eventide Hollow, a cursed land that Travelers must cross while gradually restoring its towns and services.
Death ends a Traveler’s journey, but progress in the Hollow can continue through opened shortcuts, discovered secrets, ancient relics, rebuilt homes, upgraded shops, and other improvements. Combat supports swords, bows, handguns, grenade launchers, and other weapon types. Hundreds of items, special weapons, item skills, and different starting classes shape each run. Rebuilt towns provide benefits and access to local Stonk Markets, where investments can increase wealth and influence. The game combines repeated dangerous journeys with character progression and persistent changes to the surrounding area.
How Holomento plays
- 01Permadeath journeys
- When a Traveler dies, their soul is added to the Holomento before the next journey begins.
- 02Persistent Hollow upgrades
- Shortcuts, homes, shops, towns, and other improvements can remain available for later Travelers.
- 03Mixed weapon selection
- Combat includes traditional weapons such as swords and bows alongside handguns and grenade launchers.
- 04Class-based starting gear
- Each starting class begins with its own items and changes the way combat is approached.
- 05Stonk Markets
- Restored towns provide access to local markets for investing in businesses and building wealth and influence.
Holomento compared to similar games
Ghost of a Tale centers on playing as Tilo, a mouse and minstrel, with immersion, exploration, stealth, disguises, and conversations in an animal-populated medieval world. Holomento instead uses permadeath runs, varied weaponry, starting classes, item-based progression, and town rebuilding. Vagante also presents dark-fantasy adventuring through dangerous lands, while Holomento adds persistent Hollow improvements and local business investment to its action-RPG structure.
