Our take on Hold Your Own
Rather than centering the experience on a fixed campaign alone, the game pairs a linear quest line with a full sandbox option. Its resistance storyline also frames progress as a drawn-out struggle over territory, with gains and losses.
What is Hold Your Own?
Hold Your Own is a single-player open-world survival game set across an island archipelago.
After fleeing home, the player starts with few supplies in abandoned towns while insurgents occupy the land. Survival involves gathering resources, managing hunger, thirst, and body temperature, and contending with weather and the day-night cycle. Players hunt animals, fight insurgents, mine and refine ores, and craft items such as clothing, weapons, ammunition, furniture, and workbenches. Base building, farming, animal husbandry, cooking, electricity, and vehicles are also included. The game offers a linear quest line as well as tutorial and quest modes, or a full sandbox mode without quests. Multiplayer is on hold because of technical issues.

Hold Your Own compared to similar games
Like Mr. Prepper, Hold Your Own combines survival and crafting, but it places the player in an island archipelago with base building, resource gathering, and combat against insurgents and wildlife. Mr. Prepper centers on preparing an underground shelter amid the risk of nuclear war and conflict with an authoritarian government.
