RPGIs Hogvalord worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Action RPG players who want farming and animal care alongside combat
- Players who enjoy designing a farm around a personal layout
- Fantasy game players interested in story choices with serious consequences
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking combat based on magic or superpowers will hit a wall because the game centers on fighting without either.
- Players wanting a purely peaceful farming routine may bounce off when monsters threaten the farm and its hogs.
- Players looking for a broader empire-management game may find the focus on one farm too narrow.
- Players who prefer farming without story decisions may not want choices that can lead to a dreadful ending.
Our take on Hogvalord
The bounce point comes when farm management becomes farm defense. Players expecting a quiet homestead must also face monsters threatening Lucas and his hogs, while those seeking magical abilities will find only non-magical medieval combat and physical labor.
What is Hogvalord?
Hogvalord blends action RPG combat and farm management in a medieval fantasy setting.
Lucas leaves his former role in royal service to pursue a hog-farming venture in his homeland. Players collect materials in perilous woods, cultivate vegetables for the animals, and arrange the farm as a maze, residence, or refuse-filled space. The farm also serves as a battleground, where Lucas must repel monsters. Hogs need food, water, or unusual potions; contented animals may produce one piglet during their lifetime. Their diet changes their appearance, and raising varied hogs can lead to evolutions into mythical beings. As the story unfolds, players uncover a danger to the homeland, and their decisions can bring about a grim ending.
How Hogvalord plays
- 01Story-based farming
- Farm work forms part of the story as players investigate what threatens the peace of the homeland.
- 02Custom farm design
- The farm can be arranged as a maze, a home, or a dump, and it also serves as a warzone.
- 03Manual hog care
- Players provide hogs with food, water, or potions, while happy animals can give birth to a piglet once in their lifetime.
- 04Food-based evolution
- A hog's food affects its shape and can lead to different types of hogs and mythical creatures.
- 05Forest gathering
- Dangerous forests contain resources used to build the farm.
- 06Crop growing
- Organic vegetables can be cultivated to feed the hogs.
- 07Choice consequences
- Choices made during the story can lead to a dreadful ending.
