Our take on Hijack Overdrive
The store emphasis falls on the vehicle-stealing concept, while the game also requires maintaining a garage, replaying missions for missed vehicles, and managing deployments. The fleet-management layer is central to Fleet mode but is replaced by more traditional shooting in Shooter mode.
What is Hijack Overdrive?
Hijack Overdrive is a side-scrolling action game combining platforming, shoot-'em-up combat, and tower-defense elements.
During missions, players leap between enemy vehicles, taking control of them and using each as a weapon, platform, ally, or shield. Vehicles can be stolen, dismantled, built, and carried into later missions. A base garage stores acquired vehicles, allows any collected vehicle to start a mission, and can summon one during difficult situations.
Each vehicle type has its own garage challenge, while completed missions can be replayed to collect missed vehicles. Fleet mode centers on tactical vehicle management; the added Shooter mode replaces that management with more traditional shooting while retaining vehicle hijacking. The story follows a resistance opposing a tyrant seeking power from a monster realm.
