Our take on HexLab
The shifting field adds tactical uncertainty, but it also limits the value of plans built around a fixed board. Elevation and territorial control receive most of the design attention, leaving little space for systems outside the central match.
What is HexLab?
HexLab is a logical strategy game centered on covering an opponent’s hexes with one’s own.
The playing field has sections at different heights, which affects tactical choices. Pieces can be placed in towers to make them unreachable to the opponent or to gain a positional advantage by climbing the board. The field also changes during play, as turns can destroy parts of it and make round outcomes less predictable. Different types of chips provide additional tactical properties to consider when building a strategy. Matches support two modes: competing against other players in multiplayer or facing artificial intelligence in single-player. The game’s core loop combines territorial control, elevation, changing terrain, and piece-specific tactics.
