Play it if you…
Good fit- Platformer fans who want to alternate between a flying wizard and a faster melee character
- Players who enjoy levels with puzzles, bosses, and bonus areas
- Completionists who seek collectibles and optional 100% goals
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking open-ended exploration may find the game’s level-based structure restrictive.
- Players looking for a wide range of playable characters may find the focus on Eneen and Rae limiting.
- Players who prefer ranged weapons may not enjoy Rae’s katana-based attacks.
Our take on Heart of Smoke
The two-character setup gives the game distinct movement and combat styles, but it also limits play to those two approaches. Players seeking a larger roster or character-building system may find that trade-off restrictive.
What is Heart of Smoke?
Heart of Smoke is a platformer set in a fantastical world with multiple environments and secrets.
Players use two characters: Eneen, a smoke wizard who creates a bird for flight and bats for attacks, and Rae, a faster ninja girl who fights with a katana. They work to rescue wizards turned into slave robots by Alchemecha, an expelled alchemist, while recovering scattered book pages. The game contains 5 themed worlds. Each world has 3 levels, 2 puzzles, and a boss. Every level includes 2 bonus areas and collectibles. Players can also find hidden alchemical relics and use them in colorchemy puzzles. Completing these optional objectives contributes to 100% completion, while recovered pages show progress toward restoring the Library.
