Is Goo Saga worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Platform-adventure players who want puzzles mixed with traps and combat
- Players who enjoy replaying stages through timed and survival variants
- Creative players interested in making and sharing custom levels
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a short, uninterrupted platforming run may hit a wall when puzzles and enemy encounters interrupt traversal.
- Players who want one fixed challenge per stage may find the three modes and upgrade systems too demanding to manage.
- Players looking for a purely narrative adventure may not want the level editor, leaderboards, or repeated stage variants.
Our take on Goo Saga
The bounce point arrives when movement depends on switching Goo’s three body states while handling puzzles, traps, and enemies. Players who want a single straightforward platforming rhythm may hit that wall before the later modes, upgrades, and custom-level systems become relevant.
What is Goo Saga?
Goo Saga follows Goo, an elastic creature searching an underwater laboratory for his creator and the reason he was made.
Players switch among three elasticity states—deflated, normal, and inflated—to navigate platforming sections, solve puzzles, avoid traps, and fight 12 robot enemy types. The game contains 20 levels, each with Normal, Survival, and Time Trial modes, plus four boss encounters. Crystals collected during levels can improve eight character abilities, while colorful blobs support completion of Normal mode stages. Cut scenes present the story, which has two endings. A level editor allows custom stages to be uploaded, downloaded, played, and rated online. Controller support, character skins, achievements, leaderboards, and six language options are also included.
How Goo Saga plays
- 01Elasticity states
- Goo can be changed between deflated, normal, and inflated forms during play.
- 02Three level modes
- Each of the 20 levels offers Normal, Survival, and Time Trial variants with different play requirements.
- 03Boss encounters
- The campaign includes four boss battles in addition to its regular stages.
- 04Ability upgrades
- Crystals gathered from completed levels can be spent on eight character abilities.
- 05Custom level sharing
- The editor supports uploading player-made stages and downloading, playing, and rating community creations.
- 06Story endings
- In-game cut scenes lead to two possible conclusions.
Goo Saga compared to similar games
Goo Saga combines platforming, puzzles, enemy encounters, boss battles, character upgrades, and three modes across 20 levels. Sundered: Eldritch Edition is described as a chaotic metroidvania, while Jusant focuses on climbing, stamina management, exploration, and uncovering secrets rather than Goo Saga’s elasticity-based platforming and combat structure.
